When you give to Birch Bay Village—a member of the Mount Desert Island Hospital Organization, a non-profit healthcare organization serving MDI and surrounding communities—you are making an investment in the health and well-being of all who have a connection to MDI.
The simplest and most popular way to give charitably is a gift of cash and cash equivalents. Whether you make annual gifts, a one-time gift, a memorial gift, or a pledge over a period of years, your donation may qualify for a significant tax deduction.
Your gift could be used for:
Funding for the Safe Harbor Memory Care Program to include expansion and upkeep of programming associated with life enrichment. This would include furniture for the memory garden, replacement and upkeep to garden fencing, expansion of memory garden area and additional landscape design (addition of space for gazebo, family grilling/picnic area), enrichment activities such as; gardening, cooking supplies, animal space and upkeep (chicken coop, rabbit hutch, etc), resident raised planters, and increased walking paths that accommodate wheelchairs/walkers. Funding will dictate projects that may be undertaken.
Funding for education: Funding would be used to provide increased access to education related to aging and dementia. All long term care providers are facing a shrinking workforce and difficulties in obtaining highly trained and skilled caregivers to meet the needs of our ageing population. We are considering establishing a grant program for individuals seeking training in dementia care as well as funding trainings/coursework for individuals who desire to provide direct care to elders at Birch Bay or the community.
